Wondering whether to spend your free time doom-scrolling, or head out and soak up the coffee, touch flowers, and do the rest of that? We are currently rooting for heading out to see all that Nairobi has to offer besides living up to its tag of "The City in the Sun" because what's this heat? 😲 Anyway, here's a rundown of some of what's going on this month; a versatile enough collection to make sure that there's something for everyone.
Films and Entertainment
In the world of film and movies, there's a lot set for this month and the rest of the year. We're proud of how far the Kenyan film market has come in terms of quality and more; giving us entertainment that can easily be world-class. Here's some of what you should look out for if you want to immerse yourself in all that entertainment has to offer, at least in Nairobi.
Kilele Summit; 18th to 22nd February
This is a full-week music event that caters to putting together artists for workshops, talks, and classes during the week, with a performance held on the very last day. A ticket goes for 1,000/- for Kenyans and 9,000/- for non-Kenyans. If you only want to attend the performances you’ll pay 500/- which is an amazing price for the event. Trivia Night with Green Table Pizza
We have a Trivia Night set for the 28th of this month as well, starting at 6 pm til late. The location is Green Table Pizza at Lavington Corner Mall, with solo tickets on sale at 500/- for an individual and group tickets at 2,000/- for a group of five. There will be lots of interaction during every round of the games which start at 6 pm and go on til late, so make a point to show up and make some friends. Quiz Night with Abigael Arunga
On the 28th of February at the Lava Latte is a night of hip-hop trivia; advance tickets go for 700/- while at the gate, you'll pay 1,000/- If you're going, take advantage of the early-bird tickets!
Love and Coffee
This exciting Kenyan film debuted on Valentine's Day this year, telling a touching story of love and romance in the middle of family feuds and business. This is a collaboration between Java House and Find My Africa, and is now available on streaming platforms with the relevant terms and conditions.
Premiere Screening
The Kenyan film "Premiere" has a filming set for the 21st of this month. Keep this date open if you want to catch up with a potentially amazing Kenyan film the moment it lands. Find more information here.
Kenya Theater Awards
Is on the 20th of this month; and this event is usually invite-based, sorry. I didn't have a reason to add this here, but I did :)
Music
In the world of music, there's also been some breaking news in terms of releases, EPs, singles, videos, and albums. One of the notable ones is from Ras Amor, who released an EP that's comprised of uplifting poetry called Amor.
Njerai dropped her much-awaited album: "Four-Letter-Word.” Check it out and listen to her gorgeous voice and beautiful melodies and get a taste of what Kenyan upcoming musicians have to offer.
There was also a single release by Wendy Kay, who has two Cafe Ngoma Awards nominations. The track, "Sema," is ready to stream on platforms like Boomplay.
